Christian Wulff’s career
Christian Wulff was born on June 19, 1959, in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony as the second child of Dagmar and Rudolf Wulff. He graduated from Ernst Moritz Arndt Arndt Arndt High School. From an early age, he was an active pupil, student representative and also a member of the Schüler Union and the Junge Union (youth organizations of the CDU Party in Germany).
From 1980 to 1986, Christian Wulff attended a law faculty at the University of Osnabrück, with a focus on Economics. In 1987, he passed his first state law examination in Hannover, followed by an internship at the Oldenburg Regional Court and his second state law examination in Hannover 3 years later. In the same year, in 1990 he started working in the law firm.
In 1986, Christian Wolf became a member of the CDU at the City Council of Osnabrück. In the years 1989 to 1994, he led the CDU party. Right after, he was elected to the Lower Saxony Parliament. He continued as a member of the Council until 2001. In March 1994, he became a leader of the parliamentary group CDU, and in a few months later was elected CDU’s chairman in Lower Saxony. In 1998, he became the CDU’s Deputy Federal Chairman.
Following the 2003 elections in Lower Saxony on March 4, members of the Lower Saxony Parliament elected Christian Wolf as Minister-President.
President of the Federal Republic of Germany
He served as Minister-President until June 30, 2010, the day of the 14th Federal Convention, when he became the tenth President of the Federal Republic of Germany. At his own request, he suspended his membership in his party CDU from that day.
On February 17, 2012, Christian Wolf resigned from his office as Federal President, but is still active in public life, caring for good international relationships, attending renowned events and conferences as a keynote speaker.
Christian Wulff’s beliefs
Since 2001, Christian Wulff has served as the patron of the German Society for Multiple Sclerosis, which is a national organization.
Private Life and Family
In 1988, Christian Wulff married Christine Vogt, with whom he has a daughter Annalena, born in 1993. In 2006, after 18 years of life with his wife Christine, the couple agreed to part.
Two years later, Christian Wulff married Bettina Körner with whom he has a son, Linus Florian. Linus was born in 2008. Bettina Wulff already had one son, Leander, who was five years old when she married Christian Wulff.
Awards & Honors
He holds honorary doctorates from 2 Asian Universities; Tongji University in Shanghai, China, and Tsukuba University in Tokyo, Japan.
In 2011, Christian Wulff received the Leo Baeck Award from the Central Council of Jews in Germany. A several months later, he was awarded an honorary medal of the German Confederation of Olympic Sports.
