From Baltimore to Hollywood. David Hasselhoff is noted in the Guinness Book of World Records as ‘The Most Watched TV Star in the World.’ He reached this through starring roles in both ‘Knight Rider’ and ‘Baywatch.’
David lives in Southern California with his two daughters, Taylor-Ann and Hayley. He owns six dogs, a cockatoo, two bearded dragons Ikki and Nikki, and his daughter´s cat. David is currently in the reality show ‘The Hasselhoffs’. The ten half-hour episodes starting in December will be played throughout the New Year.
David Hasselhoff’s movie career
Born in Baltimore, MD, and after his theatrical debut at age seven in Peter Pan his childhood dream was to become a star on Broadway, but he got his first acting job on the CBS soap opera, ‘The Young and the Restless,’ where he played Dr. Snapper Foster. Six years and 850 shows later he was attracted to prime time tv by NBC President, Brandon Tartikoff. He got a role in the now legendary ‘Knight Rider’ as Michael Knight. This role led him to a People´s Choice Award for Most Popular Actor. The show is still played throughout the world even 25 years later.
In 1989, he headed the cast of ‘Baywatch,’ and after being canceled by NBC, Hasselhoff acquired it with his producing partners for the first-run syndication at which time he became one of the executive producers. Thanks to his right decision, he made TV history. Show ‘Baywatch’ ran for 11 years and is still played in 140 countries and watched by over one billion viewers every week… making Hasselhoff the most watched tv star on the Earth.
Along the way, Hasselhoff performed in several feature movies including Adam Sandler´s Click, The Spongebob Squarepants cartoon, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Layover, Legacy, and his upcoming Universal release HOP with Russel Brand.
David Hasselhoff’s musical career
His extraordinary musical career began in the late 1980s when he recorded the album, ‘Looking For Freedom,’ for BMG Germany, just right after the end of the Cold War.
This song became an anthem for East and West Germany and continued at the top of their charts for two months. The album was triple platinum in Europe and Hasselhoff was titled ‘Most Popular and Best Selling Artist of the Year.’ He has since earned over 40 gold and platinum records in the world.
Looking for Freedom
In 1989, he sang ‘Looking For Freedom’ from the top of the Berlin Wall to more than one million people during the New Year´s Eve German reunification ceremony. He just finished recording his album with award-winning Broadway composer, Frank Wildhorn. The album ‘David sings the romantics’ will be released this fall. After the release, David will do a U.S. tour.
His latest pop single ‘Jump in My Car’ hit the top of the UK charts. David for the first time performed this song on the #1 NBC summer show, ‘America´s Got Talent,’ where he was also a judge for four years. The video clip of the song ‘Jump in My Car’ and his viral video hit ’Hooked on a feeling’ were downloaded more than sixteen million times, and he was newly titled one of the most downloaded artists of the decade.
After many successes, Hasselhoff performed his long-awaited Broadway debut in the hit musical, ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ in 2000. This musical was broadcasted by Broadway Television Network that televised on HBO and is also accessible on DVD from Image Entertainment.
He continued to make his West End debut in London as Billy Flynn in the long-running musical, ‘Chicago,’ and played in the Las Vegas composition of Mel Brooks’ hit musical, ‘The Producers.’ His depiction of the extravagant Roger DeBris and the singing Hitler proved to be an audience sensation.
His autobiography, ‘Making Waves,‘ was issued by Hodder & Stoughton in the UK and immediately topped the Best Seller list.
A US release titled ‘Don´t Hassel the Hoff‘ was issued by St. Martin´s Press. Thanks to this success, ‘Making Waves‘ was also published in the German translated version ‘Die Autobiography: Wellengang meines Lebens‘ and hit number 8 on the German-Austrian non-fiction charts.
Hasselhoff received the iconic award when the Comedy Central channel recently honored him with ‘The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff.’ The Hoff-roast premiered as one of the most popular comedy specials. That night it became number one in male demographics for all cable and network shows. It was a ‘trending’ sensation with over two million twitters home and globally. His recent performance on ABC´s , ’Dancing with the Stars’ contributed a thirty-six % increase in the ranks in comparison to the previous year.
David Hasselhoff’s beliefs
Hasselhoff also is a faithful philanthropist. He co-founded the charity organization, ‘Race For Life,’ and a regular guest at children’s hospitals around the globe. He currently is a member of ’Wheels for Humanity’ world-wide organization which delivers wheelchairs to disabled children and adults.
